    Aims and Scope

History and Philosophy of the Life Sciences (HPLS) is an interdisciplinary journal committed to an integrative approach to understanding the life sciences and aimed at an audience of scientists as well as humanities scholars. It welcomes submissions from biologists, historians, philosophers and scholars in the social study of science that offer a variety of disciplinary and interdisciplinary perspectives on key developments in the life sciences and their impact on society. This includes innovative work on the dynamics of theory and practice resulting from medical and agro-industrial applications of the life sciences.

HPLS especially encourages proposals of special issues that feature a variety of disciplinary approaches, as well as submissions written by junior scholars (including graduate students). While most submissions will feature original research, they may also include opinion pieces, reports from workshops and conferences, as well as interviews and other unusual formats. HPLS also publishes book reviews with a special emphasis on non-English-language books that fall within its remit.

All contributions are published on the understanding that they have not been published before and are not concurrently under offer to any other journal. Authors will usually receive a decision on their articles within 3 months of receipt.
