Emerging Topics in Ecotoxicology

Principles, Approaches and Perspectives

Series Ed.: Shugart, Lee R.

ISSN: 1868-1344

Ecotoxicology is an established scientific discipline that addresses the impact environmental contaminants have on all facets of biological organization including those manifested at the molecular, organism, species, population and ecosystem levels. The effects, which are often subtle and difficult to measure, have the potential to threaten the existence of all living forms on Earth.

Ecotoxicological science is advancing at a rapid pace in new directions due in no small part to a shift away from the application of classical toxicological testing and monitoring to basic research endeavors that integrate sophisticated techniques and methodologies available from other scientific disciplines (biology, chemistry and physics) in an effort to address some of the most fundamental problems facing Ecotoxicology (i.e., the molecular basis for toxicity).

Books within the series cover a wide range of ecotoxicologically relevant topics of particular interest to students at the graduate and postdoctoral levels, young scientists beginning their careers in addition to established scientists in all fields of the environmental sciences.
