About this book series

Engaging Indonesia brings together current debates in social and cultural studies relating to the study of Indonesia, with the aim of giving voice to both leading and emerging Indonesianists. Critical and interdisciplinary, the books in the series contribute to knowledge formation by addressing pressing issues facing the country - cultural, social, and political - from contemporary and historical perspectives. Works may include research-based monographs, edited volumes, handbooks, and translations of both recent, and seminal/historical works. The series is particularly welcoming of topics relating to issues of urban and environmental change, to questions of identity and place, to problems of governance and conflicts, to the politics of representation, language, and performances, and to the global and postcolonial contexts in which these are addressed. Special consideration is given to studies that cover underrepresented regions and marginalized voices, as well as those that seek to recover lost archives, uncounted political events, or forgotten historical figures. Relevant to students and scholars from a broad range of disciplines in the humanities and social sciences with a particular interest in researching Indonesia, the series champions intellectual engagement with the archipelago’s rapidly changing landscape - from within, and beyond.
