About this book series
Megacities of the World aims to be a valuable reference on the
development of megacities in the world. Each title in the series provides an
overview of the historical urban development, the current situation and a look
into the future trends and insights of each megacity. Each title highlights the
specific context and uniqueness of each world megacity. The objective is to
offer insight into the way a city deals with urbanization issues and, when
applicable, how a megacity can set example in developing innovative solutions
with regards to climate change, pollution, urban environment, quality of life,
transportation and urban governance, as well as complying with the UN New Urban
Agenda. Topics covered include, but are not limited to, urban development, urban
landscapes, urban structure, spatial patterns, spatial and urban planning,
urban dynamics, urban sprawl, urban management, globalization, cultural and
historical background, urban economy, climate change/climate change adaptation,
pollution, urban environment, sustainability, health, quality of life, urban
water use, waste management, renewable energy, green cities, food supply/urban
agriculture, transportation planning, urban resilience, urban tourism, smart
technologies, political systems and urban governance.
The series
aims to capture the diversity of each megacity in the world. It is a unique and
prominent series for urban studies, urban geography, urban planning and
regional development research. It is aimed at researchers, students, policy
makers and practitioners. The series publishes monographs and edited volumes.
The rationale of the series is that since 6 out of 10 people are expected to live in cities in 2030 and urban sprawl has presented a number of challenges (pollution, inequality, diseases, susceptibility to hazards, among others), it becomes necessary to look at cities, megacities specifically, as drivers of change.
Discontinued series: although this series no longer publishes new content, the published titles listed here remain available.
