Professor Shujie Yao

Professor Shujie Yao is dean of the Li Anmin Institute of Economic Research and Senior Chair Professor of Liaoning University. He is Chueng Kong Distinguished Professor awarded by the Chinese Ministry of Education and Distinguished Talent-Scientist awarded by the Chongqing Municipal Government as well as national-level distinguished chair professor of economics in Chongqing University. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Manchester, UK in 1989, and did post-doctoral research at the University of Oxford. Before returning to China in 2014, he served as the founding dean and chair professor of the School of Contemporary Chinese Studies and the Confucius Institute at the University of Nottingham, UK. He has been an economic advisor to the World Bank, United Nations and other international organizations with working experiences in more than 20 less developed countries in Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe. He was chairman of Chinese Economic Association (UK) in 1997-98 and senior vice chairman of the Federation of All China Professional Societies in the UK. He is a special economic commentator of China Central Television International Broadcasting Channel (CRI and CGTN), the Secretary-General of Urbanization and Regional Innovation Pole Development Research Center, and Chairman of the Steering Committee of Chongqing Higher Education Economics Undergraduate Education.

Professor Shujie YAO has published nearly 200 papers in dozens of well-known academic journals such as Journal of Political Economy and Economic Research (14 papers, China’s best economic journal) at home and abroad, and has published 19 monographs and edited books in both Chinese and English. He has published more than 100 articles in domestic and foreign mainstream media such as Financial Times, Daily Telegraph, Washington Post, China Daily, People’s Daily, Guangming Daily, Reference News, and People’s Forum. He serves as the Editor of several CSSCI/SSCI journals in Chinese and English, including Economic Research. He is the Editor-in-Chief of China Policy Series of Palgrave-MacMillan in the UK. His papers have been cited 7,309 times by Google Scholars, with 45 H-index (28 in the most recent five years) and 92 i10-index papers. His Chinese papers have been cited 3636 times in CNKI, with one paper being cited over 700 times. In the last three years, two of his papers have become highly cited papers. He has been awarded the Elsevier Global Highly Cited Scholar from 2020 to 2021. He is ranked 261st among the 1,000 outstanding scientists in Economics and Finance of the modern times in the UK, positioning after the late Nobel Laureate in Economics, Professor James Mirrlees. He is also listed in the world’s top 2% best scientists in 2022 for life-long academic achievements.

Professor Yao Shujie presided over one major project of the National Social Science Foundation of China (the most prestigious research grant in social sciences in China), one general project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and more than 10 provincial and ministerial projects. He has written more 10 policy advisory reports which are endorsed by senior government officials at the national and provincial levels. Some of his policy recommendations were adopted by the national and provincial 14th Five-Years Development Plans. He has won the “Sanqin Friendship Award” of Shaanxi Province, the Outstanding Individual Award of global Confucius Institutes, the first, second and third prizes for outstanding achievements in philosophy and social sciences at the provincial and ministerial levels, and the special prize and first prize for national excellent theoretical articles. He also won Zhang Peigang Outstanding Achievement Award in Development Economics, An Zijie International Trade Outstanding Article Award, Top 10 Theoretical Articles Award of Chongqing Daily, Special Contribution Award of Chongqing University, Model Teacher Award of “Moral Education and Talent Cultivation”, and the Outstanding Worker Award.


Dr Yu You

Dr. Yu You is a professor at Li Anmin institute of Economic Research, Liaoning University in China. He received his Ph.D. in Economics in 2013 from University of Kentucky in the United States. Before joining Liaoning University, Dr. You was an associate professor in Capital University of Economics and Business in Beijing, China. His broad research interests include International Finance, Economic growth, Macro Finance, and Finance in general. He has published more than 20 articles in various SSCI journals and top Chinese journals, including Journal of Banking and Finance, Economic Modelling, International Review of Economics and Finance, Journal of Futures Markets, World Economy, Review of Development Economics, Economic Research Journal (Top 1 Chinese journal), and Journal of Financial Research (Top Chinese journal). He is the principal investigator of several national research projects funded by The National Social Science Fund of China and Humanities and Social Science Research Foundation of the Ministry of Education of China (HSSRFMEC). He is also the major participant of various national projects funded by National Science Foundation of China and HSSRFMEC. His research has been presented in various prestigious conferences such as annual meeting of American Economic Association, annual meeting of Southern Economic Association, International Economics World Congress, and annual meeting of China Society of World Economics. He was awarded the top young talent of the “LiaoNing Revitalization Talents Program” in 2019 and the thousand level scholar of the “Hundred, Thousand, and Ten Thousand Talents Project” of Liaoning in 2020.
