Description
This Topical Collection aims to stimulate scholarly discussions on issues concerning the theory of restoration and its methodological applications. The goal is to consolidate criteria and theoretical aspects related to contemporary needs, with a specific emphasis on navigating the complexity of potential future directions within our scientific sectors.

Especially during this period, alongside the challenges posed by the public health emergency and pressing environmental issues, we are confronted with emergencies in conflict-affected areas - a scenario we had hoped would not occur in the old continent and the Mediterranean. Beyond the most emblematic aspects of conserving and sustainably using architectural, landscape, archaeological and historical-artistic heritage, there is exists a tangible risk of permanent loss, not only of the physical appearance but also of the historical memory of important parts of our cultural heritage.

In this context, the following key topics are proposed:
• Reuse and restoration
• Teaching restoration, conservation and related disciplines
• Risk mitigation in architectural and urban heritage
• Impact of wars on cultural and built heritage
• New technologies to support the protection of built heritage.
