Journal of Social and Economic Development - Announcement of Special Issue for JSED on Essays in Social and Economic Development

The Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC) has completed 50 years as a premier social science institute on 20th January 2022. Set up in 1972 by Prof V K R V Rao, the Institute has had glorious past as the largest social sciences research institute in India undertaking research and training in social sciences and as a thinktank to the government at the union and provincial levels. The Institute has organised year-long celebrations commencing with Founders' Day celebration on 20th January 2022. As a part of these celebrations, Golden Jubilee lectures were organised during the whole of 2022.

These lectures were delivered by eminent social scientists from India and outside on several themes relating to social and economic development. Some of the important areas covered are: the design of anti-poverty policies, happiness among subaltern groups, moral economy, inter-group inequality, inclusive development, low carbon energy systems, clean energy and sustainable development, India as a land of opportunities, understanding wounded civilisation, agrarian distress, human resource development, genetically modified crops, national rural employment guarantee scheme and so on. The lectures covered diverse themes such as poverty and inequality, inclusive development, subaltern groups, carbon energy systems, clean energy, and sustainable development.

The papers in the volume are revised versions. These are reviewed, and copy edited for publication in the journal. There were 18 lectures delivered between January 20, 2022 to January 19, 2023; of them, 14 are included in the special issues on Esay on Social and Economic Development, edited by Prof D Rajasekhar, Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Social and Economic Development (this opens in a new tab)
