Aims and scope
The Österreichische Zeitschrift für Soziologie [ÖZS; Austrian Journal of Sociology] is a double-blind, peer-reviewed academic journal that provides a platform for sociologists and social scientists a platform to publish articles that provide new insights into societal developments through high-quality sociological analysis and research.
The editors invite submissions dealing with sociological and social scientific theory, methodology and practice. The journal is open to all fields of sociological research, theoretical frameworks, and methodological approaches to deepen the dialogue between the different perspectives in the field of sociological research. While contributions dealing with contemporary social developments in Austria are encouraged, contributions beyond the Austrian context are also welcome.
Contributions in English and German are accepted as long-form original research articles or shorter reports. The Editors-in-Chief appoint a member of the editorial team to evaluate each submission before peer review is initiated. If the content is within the expected scope of the journal and all formal criteria are met, the Editorial Board invites at least two anonymous reviewers to evaluate the paper. The editorial team is committed to supporting early career sociologists by offering preliminary evaluations of manuscripts.
In addition to articles and reports, the ÖZS also publishes book reviews. Manuscripts can be submitted at any time and will be published shortly after acceptance, with specific format requirements available in the submission guidelines.
ÖZS allows sociologists outside the editorial board to become guest editors and to propose a "call for papers" for special topics. Once approved, these proposals are developed and published in collaboration with the editorial team, ensuring that the journal's quality standards are met.
The ÖZS is managed by an independent editorial team. This guarantees its editorial autonomy.
