According to Welter et al. (2019, p. 326): “the world changes: indeed, it changes in part as a result of entrepreneurship.” This statement is a useful starting point to reflect on the relevance of entrepreneurship in changing the world from several perspectives. First, entrepreneurship relies on innovation and so new products, services, and processes are made available for everyone. Changes are at the basis of entrepreneurship. Second, the creation of new businesses causes an economic and social impact worldwide. Thus, entrepreneurship implies changes. Third, only entrepreneurs can foresee the future and act to change the now. Entrepreneurs are the ultimate change-makers.

Our goal for this Collection is to create a cross-disciplinary space for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers interested in entrepreneurship as a way to address paramount global issues, with an emphasis on the expected and realized changes as well as the probably and effective implications related to entrepreneurship phenomena. We will investigate the impact of entrepreneurship with an eye toward how it can shape the future, utilizing micro, meso, and macro levels of analysis.

We encourage submissions including, but not limited to, the following topics:

  • Entrepreneurship processes: input-output combinations in which results depend on planned and emergent actions;
  • Entrepreneurial decision-making and behavior: mechanisms based on trust, rationality, intuition, conflicts, and spirituality;
  • Entrepreneurial finance: external financiers who can affect the development of entrepreneurial ideas/firms;
  • Entrepreneurship and regional development: the impact of entrepreneurship on the quality of local society and economy;
  • Social and sustainable entrepreneurship: the two-way relationship between sustainability and new businesses;
  • Growth strategies and internationalization: timing, entry mode, and organizational tools;
  • The change nature of entrepreneurial networks and ecosystems: dynamics at the dawn of complex spatial morphologies and specificities;
  • Entrepreneurial profiles: female, ethnic, young, and inclusive entrepreneurship, and future projections vis-à-vis such profiles;
  • Academic entrepreneurship: technology transfer processes, the role of star-scientists, and how the future may bring change;
  • Creative industries and life design: experimental approaches that reshape the way of approaching entrepreneurship.
