About this book
Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), one of the most important developments in radiation oncology in the past 25 years, involves technology to deliver radiation to tumors in the right location, quantity and time. Unavoidable irradiation of surrounding normal tissues is distributed so as to preserve their function. The achievements and future directions in the field are grouped in the three sections of the book, each suitable for supporting a teaching course. Part 1 contains topical reviews of the basic principles of IMRT, part 2 describes advanced techniques such as image-guided and biologically based approaches, and part 3 focuses on investigation of IMRT to improve outcome at various cancer sites.
Reviews
From the reviews:
Doody's 4 Star Review:
"...In general, this is a useful and much needed book with a broad base intended to provide a firm foundation for understanding IMRT. It is a high quality book that will likely become a standard reference for residents, clinicians, physicists, and dosimetrists. It is concise yet comprehensive and will prove a useful addition to radiation oncologists' libraries." (J.D. Douglas, University of Washington Medical Center, Doody's, November 2007)
"The four editors have … created a readable book, logically organised and presented. … The emphasis is on IMRT with Image Guidance … . The book is good value and should be available in all departments that aspire to the modern practice of radiotherapy. Leaders in the field will no doubt want their own copy and find it a comprehensive source of reference for years to come. The editors and authors should be commended for their efforts in bringing it all together." (Prof. Peter Williams, RAD Magazine, November, 2006)
"Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) has been rightfully billed as one of the most important developments in radiation oncology in the past 25 years. … Accompanying the text are numerous tables and ample clear, high quality diagrams and images (most of which are in color), which effectively amplify understanding of abstract concepts. … Overall, this is an excellent reference for any technical or clinical professional’s library covering the techniques, rationale, and clinical applications of IG-IMRT." (James S. Welsh and Jeffrey P. Limmer, International Journal of Radiation Oncology • Biology • Physics, Vol. 65 (4), 2006)
