Biological Cybernetics 

Biological Cybernetics is an interdisciplinary medium for experimental, theoretical and application-oriented aspects of information processing in organisms, including sensory, motor, cognitive, and ecological phenomena. Topics covered include: experimental studies of biological systems including quantitative modeling; computational, technical, or theoretical studies with relevance for understanding biological information processing; and artificial implementation of biological information processing and self-organizing principles.

Brain Imaging and Behavior 

A quarterly, peer-reviewed journal that publishes clinically relevant research using neuroimaging approaches to enhance our understanding of disorders of higher brain function. The journal is targeted at clinicians and researchers in fields concerned with human brain-behavior relationships, such as neuropsychology, psychiatry, neurology, neurosurgery, rehabilitation, and cognitive neuroscience.

Brain Structure & Function 

Impact factor: 2.417. Providing insight into brain structure–function relationships. Studies published here integrate data spanning from molecular, cellular, developmental, and system architecture, to the neuroanatomy of behavior and cognitive functions, to clinical neuroanatomy and brain dysfunction.

Brain Topography 

Brain Topography publishes clinical and basic research on cognitive neuroscience and functional neurophysiology using the full range of imaging techniques including EEG, MEG, fMRI, TMS, diffusion imaging, spectroscopy, intracranial recordings, lesion studies, and related methods.

Cell & Tissue Research 

Impact factor: 2.74. Cell and Tissue Research presents regular articles and reviews in the areas of molecular, cell, and supracellular biology. Areas of research with a long-standing tradition of publishing in Cell & Tissue Research include: neurobiology, neuroendocrinology, endocrinology, reproductive biology, skeletal and immune systems, and development.

Cellular and Molecular Neurobiology 

Impact factor: 2.55. Publishing original research concerned with the analysis of neuronal and brain function at the cellular and subcellular levels. This superb bimonthly offers timely, peer-reviewed articles that describe anatomic, genetic, physiologic, pharmacologic, and biochemical approaches to the study of neuronal function and the analysis of elementary mechanisms.

The Cerebellum 

Impact factor: 3.847. A central source for the latest developments in a growing field. Coverage spans fundamental neurosciences including molecular and cellular biology; behavioural neurosciences and neurochemistry; genetics; fundamental and clinical neurophysiology; neurology and neuropathology; cognition and neuroimaging.

Chemosensory Perception 

Publishing original research and review papers covering the connection between chemical, sensory, and neurological sciences. Particular emphasis will be placed on interdisciplinary work linking these areas. Only animal work with explicit links toward human phenomena is included.

Cognitive Computation 

New in 2009, Cognitive Computation is an international, peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary journal that publishes cutting-edge articles describing original basic and applied work involving biologically-inspired computational accounts of all aspects of natural and artificial cognitive systems.

Cognitive Neurodynamics 

Cognitive Neurodynamics is an international, interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed journal, focusing on the overlapping fields of cognitive science and nonlinear dynamics, while also covering related areas in neuroscience, mathematics, physics, computer science, informatics, intelligent robotics and more.

Cognitive Processing 

Cognitive Processing -- International Quarterly of Cognitive Science is a peer-reviewed international journal that publishes innovative contributions in the multidisciplinary field of cognitive science. Its main purpose is to stimulate research and scientific interaction through communication between specialists in different fields on topics of common interest and to promote an interdisciplinary understanding of the diverse topics in contemporary cognitive science.

Experimental Brain Research 

Impact factor: 2.195. Publishing original contributions on many aspects of experimental research of the central and peripheral nervous system. The focus is on molecular, physiology, behavior, neurochemistry, developmental, cellular and molecular neurobiology, and experimental pathology relevant to general problems of cerebral function.

Invertebrate Neuroscience 

Invertebrate Neuroscience publishes original articles, short communications, and reviews describing recent advances in the field of invertebrate neuroscience. Special emphasis is placed on studies using molecular and cell biology methods to elucidate mechanisms of nervous system development and function.

Journal of the Association for Research in Otolaryngology 

With an impact factor of 2.429, JARO is a peer-reviewed journal that publishes research findings from disciplines related to otolaryngology and communications sciences, including hearing, balance, speech and voice. JARO welcomes submissions describing experimental research that investigates the mechanisms underlying problems of basic and/or clinical significance.

Journal of Comparative Physiology A 

Impact factor: 2.014. Presents original articles and short reviews that add to understanding of mechanisms of physiology, at the organismic, cellular or molecular levels of organization. Topics include Neurobiology, Neuroethology, Sensory physiology, Sensory ecology, Physiological basis of behavior, Hormonal control of behavior, Communication, Orientation, Locomotion, Functional neuroanatomy and more.

Journal of Computational Neuroscience 

Impact factor: 2.014. A forum for papers that fit the interface between computational and experimental work in the neurosciences. The journal publishes full length original papers, rapid communications and review articles describing theoretical and experimental work relevant to computations in the brain and nervous system.

Journal of Molecular Medicine 

Impact Factor: 4.37. Covers all aspects of human biology and pathophysiology. The emphasis is on the unprecedented progress and precision now possible in the understanding, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of human diseases. The employment of molecular biology and gene technology has enhanced the understanding of human diseases and has created a new branch of research known as "molecular medicine".

Journal of Neurodevelopmental Disorders 

New in 2009, the journal provides a forum for interdisciplinary research aimed at the integration of knowledge across a number of neurodevelopmental disorders; underlying pathogenetic mechanisms; and scientific disciplines relevant to understanding the pathogenesis of neurodevelopmental disorders.

Journal of Neuroimmune Pharmacology 

Impact factor: 2.456. JNIP interfaces the disciplines of immunology, pharmacology and experimental neuroscience by acting as a platform for research discoveries into the pathogenesis and pharmacology of brain disorders affecting the immune system. Includes original and interdisciplinary scientific contributions, concise "opinion," and broader reviews.

Metabolic Brain Disease 

A forum for the publication of outstanding basic and clinical papers on all metabolic brain disease, including both human and animal studies. The journal publishes papers on the fundamental pathogenesis of these disorders and on related experimental and clinical techniques and methodologies.

Naunyn-Schmiedeberg's Archives of Pharmacology 

Impact factor: 2.83. Coverage focuses on new and significant information on drug action and toxicity of chemical compounds. Thus, its scope extends to all fields of experimental and clinical pharmacology as well as toxicology and includes studies in the fields of neuropharmacology and cardiovascular pharmacology as well as those describing drug actions at the cellular, biochemical and molecular levels.

Neurochemical Journal 

A source for communication on the latest findings in all areas of contemporary neurochemistry and other fields of relevance (including molecular biology, biochemistry, physiology, neuroimmunology, pharmacology) in order to expand understanding of the functions of nervous system. It presents papers on functional neurochemistry, nervous system receptors, neurotransmitters, myelin, chromaffin granules and other components of the nervous system, as well as neurophysiological and clinical aspects, behavioral reactions, etc.

Neurochemical Research 

Impact factor: 2.26. Neurochemical Research is devoted to the rapid publication of studies that use neurochemical methodology in research on nervous system structure and function. The journal publishes original reports of experimental and clinical research results, perceptive reviews of significant problem areas in the neurosciences, brief comments of a methodological or interpretive nature, and research summaries conducted by leading scientists whose works are not readily available in English.


With an impact factor of 4.281, Neurogenetics presents research that contributes to better understanding of the genetic basis of normal and abnormal function of the nervous system. The journal publishes findings in humans and other organisms that help explain neurological disease mechanisms, and papers from many fields such as biophysics, cell biology, human genetics, neuroanatomy, neurochemistry, neurology, neuropathology, neurosurgery and psychiatry.


With an impact factor of 2.889, Neuroinformatics publishes original articles and reviews with an emphasis on data structure and software tools related to analysis, modeling, integration, and sharing in all areas of neuroscience research.

NeuroMolecular Medicine 

Impact factor: 2.631. NeuroMolecular Medicine (part B of the Journal of Molecular Neuroscience) presents cutting-edge research articles and critical reviews on the molecular and biochemical basis of neurological disorders. Coverage ranges from genetic analyses of human populations to animal and cell culture models of neurological disorders, and includes findings concerning the identification of genetic aberrancies and their pathogenic mechanisms at the molecular and cellular levels.

Neuropsychology Review 

Impact factor: 3.349. Devoted to integrative, state-of-the-art review papers in neuropsychology, with a particular focus on clinical populations, and on translational research bearing on clinical problems. Its refereed articles, written by leading international specialists, discuss complex issues including distinctive neurocognitive features of central nervous system disease and injury; challenges in early diagnosis; the impact of ethnicity; risk factors for cognitive impairment; treatment efficacy of neuropsychological rehabilitation; imaging and other neurometric modalities; clinical trial design; interactions between psychiatric and cognitive abnormalities, and more.


A translation of the Ukrainian journal Neirofiziologiya, Neurophysiology features a broad, interdisciplinary scope which covers original studies on molecular, cellular, and systemic neurophysiology, functional neuromorphology, neuropharmacology, and neurochemistry.

Neuroscience and Behavioral Physiology 

Neuroscience and Behavioral Physiology contains translations of papers selected from top Russian journals describing significant results of studies on the nervous system. Special attention is given to research relating brain function with behavior.

Neuroscience Bulletin 

A bimonthly journal publishing original fundamental and clinical experimental research articles in the fields of neuroscience. Besides original research papers, the journal also provides columns such as Communications, Experimental methods, Review and Progress. Published by the Shanghai Institutes of Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Second Military Medical University

Neurotoxicity Research 

Neurotoxicity Research, with an impact factor of 2.828, is now published by Springer. The journal publishes basic and clinical research on classical neurotoxins and mechanisms associated with neurodegeneration.


Impact factor: 3.676. An international journal of research and scholarship, the aims of which are to cover the general area of elucidating mechanisms by which drugs affect behavior, both terms intended in the broadest sense. The scope of the Journal extends from clinical psychopharmacology (including trials), to experimental studies on the effects of drugs on cognition and behavior in humans and laboratory studies in experimental animals.

Translational Stroke Research 

New for 2010, Translational Stroke Research covers basic, translational, and clinical studies. The Journal emphasizes novel approaches in order to help translate scientific discoveries from basic stroke research into the development of new strategies for prevention, assessment, treatment, and repair after stroke and other forms of neurotrauma.
