Dear Friends and Colleagues,

We are writing to seek your support for a Memorial Issue of Medicinal Chemistry Research in honor of Prof. Patrick M. Woster, an outstanding medicinal chemist who passed away too soon. He has made numerous contributions to the discipline and the community of medicinal chemistry.

Dr. Woster earned his Ph.D. in medicinal chemistry at the University of Nebraska School of Pharmacy and following a postdoctoral appointment with James Coward joined the faculty at Wayne State University in 1988 at the School of Pharmacy where he was widely recognized as an outstanding instructor while building a highly productive research program. He moved to the School of Pharmacy at the Medical University of South Carolina in 2011, where he was appointed as a SmartStateĀ® Endowed Chair in drug discovery. He authored more than 150 peer reviewed publications and has 12 issued patents (with 9 additional applications) in addition to giving numerous invited presentations. Dr. Woster also had a leadership role with the Division of Medicinal Chemistry of the American Chemical Society, serving in a variety of capacities including Division Secretary and Webmaster, Division Chair, and Membership and International Relations Chair. Dr. Woster served on numerous grant review panels, including more than 50 NIH study sections, and on the Editorial Boards of several scientific journals including Journal of Medicinal Chemistry and Medicinal Chemistry Research. He was elected to the ACS Med Chem Divisionā€™s Hall of Fame in 2019 based on his outstanding scientific contributions, and for his substantial record of contributions to the discipline as a mentor, leader, and advocate for medicinal chemistry.
