Machine Intelligence Research - Call for Papers: Special Issue on Transformers for Medical Image Analysis

Transformers have demonstrated their great potential in the field of natural language processing (NLP). Inspired by the successes of Transformers in NLP, researchers have started to use Vision Transformer (ViT) to deal with image classification tasks by capturing long-term dependencies within the input image. In recent years, Transformers have been applied to medical image analysis, in particular, disease diagnosis, image segmentation, and object detection and synthesis.

The goal of this special issue is to bring together perspectives from various disciplines, including healthcare artificial intelligence, medical image machine learning, bioinformatics and medical record analysis. We wish this special issue becomes a forum where open research questions and opportunities in medical image analysis are identified and addressed in the research community.

Topics of interests include, but are not limited to,

1) Deep learning for cancer detection and prognosis prediction.

2) Deep learning in bioinformatics.

3) Deep learning for biomarker discovery and validation.

4) Explainable deep learning in medical image analysis.

5) Adversarial attacks and defences in deep learning systems.

6) Ethical challenges and solutions in deep learning.

7) Time series analysis using Transformers.

8) Transfer learning and applications using Transformers.

9) Transformer based multi-modal analysis in clinical diagnosis.

10) Transformer based federated learning for distributed medical data.
