SpringerOpen is our portfolio of over 200 peer-reviewed, fully open access journals and over 600 open access books covering all areas of science, technology, medicine, the humanities and social sciences. Publishing with SpringerOpen makes your work freely available online for everyone, immediately upon publication.
Springer’s high-level peer-review, publishing and production processes apply for our SpringerOpen journals and books in precisely the same way they do for titles with the subscription-based model, guaranteeing the quality and reliability of the work.
In 2010, we launched the first SpringerOpen journals and our open access journal portfolio has grown tremendously ever since. Today, we are able to provide researchers from all areas of science, technology, medicine, the humanities and social sciences a place to publish in an open access journal.
Our SpringerOpen journals are made freely and permanently available online immediately upon publication. Thanks to this unrestricted access, all articles can be read by researchers all over the world.
By publishing with us, you retain the copyright of your work under the terms of a Creative Commons license. This means that you can deposit the final version of your work in any digital repository immediately after publication.
We are committed to providing high-level peer review, author and production services, so you can trust in the quality and reliability of the work that we publish.

In August 2012, the growing demand for open access publishing led Springer to expand our open access program to fully open access books as a further addition to our established SpringerOpen journal portfolio. Authors in all disciplines have the opportunity to publish open access books, including complete monographs, edited volumes, proceedings and SpringerBriefs.
In addition, we offer a print edition at a reduced price.
The eBook is automatically included in Springer’s eBook collections at no additional cost, so if your library offers the respective Springer eBook Collection, the printed book is also exclusively available for you as a MyCopy softcover edition.
Open access membership programTop
Together with BioMed Central we offer an open access membership program, which enables academic and research institutions, societies and funders to actively support open access by removing some or all of the financial cost (APC) from the individual author.
Authors at member institutions can publish their work in any SpringerOpen and BioMed Central journal at a reduced rate or even no cost at all, and are entitled to a 15% discount on the publication fee when they publish a SpringerOpen book.
We currently have over 500 institutional open access membership agreements in more than 50 countries. Visit the SpringerOpen website to find out whether your institution is a member.
If your institution is not an open access member, visit our open access funding page to find out how the open access publication charge can be covered.
