​Bei variantenreicher Fließproduktionen können unterschiedliche Produkttypen auf einer gemeinsamen Fertigungslinie hergestellt werden. Durch die unterschiedlichen Produkttypen kann es dabei zu einem schwankenden Bedarf an Produktionskapazität kommen. Dieser führt zu Ineffizienzen. Jan Dörmer entwickelt neuartige Methoden des Operations Research zur Produktionsprogrammplanung, um eine Glättung des Kapazitätsbedarfs zu erreichen. Darüber hinaus zeigt Herr Dörmer in umfangreichen numerischen Tests, welchen Einfluss die Produktionsprogrammplanung auf die nachgelagerte Reihenfolgebildung hat.
