It is the first book devoted to the covalent coupling of molecular precursors on surfaces that allows the preparation of 0D, 1D and 2D molecules that cannot be synthesized in solution. This book is aimed at students and researchers interested in nanochemistry and molecular devices and it gives the reader a pedagogical up-to-date vision of the most recent developments. The editor ensures a multidisciplinary approach involving molecular chemistry, surface sciences, surface spectroscopies, theory, scanning tunneling and non-contact atomic force microscopies.

About the authors

André Gourdon is CNRS Director of Research and leader of the Nanosciences Group at CEMES/CNRS (www.cemes.fr/GNS). A chemical engineer, after two PhDs, and a post-doc in Oxford, Gourdon moved to the CEMES-CNRS to explore the design and synthesis of molecular devices for nanosciences.

He has coordinated European projects like "CHIC: Consortium for Hamiltonian Intramolecular Computing" and “ARTIST: Alternative Routes Towards Information Storage and Transport”. He is currently coordinating the large European integrated project “PAMS: Planar Atomic and Molecular Scale Devices” (pams-project.eu) (2013-2018) with the objective to investigate all scientific and technological aspects of the fabrication of a molecular chip. He is the author of more than 135 scientific publications.
