This book provides a state-of-the-art description of the pathophysiology, diagnosis and management of valvular heart disease (VHD). With an aging population, the incidence and complexity of VHD has markedly increased and the introduction of transcatheter valve therapies have revolutionized the management of these frequent and serious cardiovascular diseases. The development of percutaneous valve interventions has revolutionized the management of VHD (or has dramatically changed its management)
Heart Valve Disease: State of the Art is dedicated to provide up-to-date knowledge to clinical and interventional cardiologists, cardiovascular imagers and cardiac surgeons. It provides state-of-the-art information for the health-care professional working in heart valve clinics, heart teams, and centers of excellence that specialize in managing patients with heart valve disease.

His key research interests include ischaemic heart disease, cardiovascular risk factors and imaging modalities. Professor Zamorano is Past President of the European Association of Echocardiography (EAE) and Past President of the Working Group on Non-invasive Diagnostic Imaging of the Spanish Society of Cardiology. Currently Vice president of the European Society of Cardiology. He served on numerous Editorial Boards, including the European Journal of Echocardiography, the American Society of Echocardiography and the European Heart Journal. He has authored over 400 articles for peer-reviewed journals. He gained his MD from the University Complutense in 1987.
Patricio Lanzelloti is a pioneer in the field of valvular heart disease. He has already co-edited several books including the secondary mitral regurgitation with Khalil Fattouch.Luc Pierard is honorary Professor of Medicine at the University of Liège, Belgium and was Head of the Department of Cardiology of the University Hospital Sart Tilman in Liège from 2002 to 2017. He was the first to demonstrate the utility of dobutamine stress echocardiography for identifying myocardial viability and ischemia and to use exercise echocardiography in valvular heart diseases. He was President of the Belgian Society of Cardiology and had several positions in the European Society of Cardiology: he chaired the Working Group on Echocardiography and is currently chairperson of the ESC Council in Valvular Heart Disease. He is Editor-in-Chief of Acta Cardiologica and Senior Associate Editor of the EHJ Cardiovascular Imaging. He has published more than 400 peer-reviewed articles (many on valvular heart disease) and more than 50 book chapters.
Philippe Pibarot is professor at the Department of Medicine of Laval University and holds the Canada Research Chair in Valvular Heart Disease (VHD) at the Québec Heart & Lung Institute. “This is a great source for understanding valvular heart disease aimed at cardiologists, internists, physicians in training, midlevel providers, echocardiography technicians, researchers, and scientists. It is especially useful to people interested in cardiology training or cardiac imaging fellowship and those preparing for echocardiography boards. … This is an excellent reference book for echocardiographers, echo technicians, cardiologists, physicians in training, internists, and midlevel providers that thoroughly summarizes state-of-the-art information on valvular heart disease, with references from ASE and EACVI guidelines.” (Venugopal B Bhattad, Doody’s Book Reviews, March 27, 2020)
