About this book

This book gathers the proceedings of “Engineer of the XXI Century: The VIII Inter-University Conference of Students, PhD Students and Young Scientists”, which was held at the University of Bielsko-Biała (ATH), Poland, on the 8th of December 2017. The event highlighted outstanding research on mechatronics in the broadest sense, while also promoting cooperation among students and young scientists from around the globe. Topic areas covered include: mechanics and machine building, automation and robotics, mechatronics, production engineering and management, and informatics/computer science.

About the editors

Professor Stanisław Zawiślak, Ph.D., D.Sc. has been a member of the Scientific Committee of the Conference “Engineer of the XXI Century” since its inception. He graduated from the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice, Poland (1979) and received his Ph.D. from the TU Gdansk, Poland (1990). He subsequently engaged in two brief postdoctoral fellowships (1992, 1993) at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. At present, he works at the University of Bielsko-Biała, Poland. He has published over 100 scientific articles, and recently edited the book “Graph-based modelling in engineering” (Springer, 2017). His main areas of interest are applications of graph theory in MMS (especially planetary gears) and art, and the optimization of graph-related problems using evolutionary algorithms.

Lecturer Jacek Rysiński, Ph.D., has been a member of the Organizing Committee of the Conference “Engineer of the XXI Century” since its inception. CurrentlyVice-Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Bielsko-Biała, Poland, his main areas of interest are problems on fatigue of geared wheels; modelling using the BEASY (boundary elements) system; and robotics.
