About this book

Young people around the world are increasingly able to access English language media online for leisure purposes and interact with other users of English. This book examines the extent of these phenomena, their effect on language acquisition and their implications for the teaching of English in the 21st century.

Reviews

“In an engaging, highly readable yet authoritative prose, Sockett describes how changes in technology have allowed for unprecedented out-of-classroom access to a wide-range of pop-culture, often resulting in personalized, English learning environments. … The online Informal Learning of English provides an excellent starting point for research on informal learning in today’s globalized online environment.” (Jason Cole, System, 2016)
