About this book

"Analytical System Dynamics: Modeling and Simulation" combines results from analytical mechanics and system dynamics to develop an approach to modeling constrained multidiscipline dynamic systems. This combination yields a modeling technique based on the energy method of Lagrange, which in turn, results in a set of differential-algebraic equations that are suitable for numerical integration. Using the modeling approach presented in this book enables one to model and simulate systems as diverse as a six-link, closed-loop mechanism or a transistor power amplifier.

Reviews

From the reviews:

"The textbook combines results from analytical mechanics and system dynamics to develop an approach to modeling constrained multidiscipline dynamic systems. … Every chapter ends with a list of 15–30 problems for students. The book will be of interest to graduate students, researches and practicing engineers in multidiscipline dynamic systems described by ODE and DAE." (Sergei Georgievich Zhuravlev, Zentralblatt MATH, Vol. 1163, 2009)

“The recently published Analytical System Dynamics, by Professor Fabien … is an excellent marriage of the traditional Analytical Mechanics and System Dynamics. Two major features make this book stand out from other advanced dynamics books. … This book devotes more than one-third of its contents to numerical approaches and simulations of dynamic systems. … Analytical System Dynamics is a textbook suitable for graduate-level, advanced dynamics courses of both modeling and simulation. … it is a good complementary text for advanced dynamics.” (Zhuang Li, International Journal of Acoustics and Vibration, Vol. 14 (2), 2009)

“This book is aimed at teaching dynamic system modeling and simulation to seniors and first-year graduate students in engineering. The topics covered include a unified system representation, kinematics, Lagrange’s equation of motion, constrained systems, numerical solution of ODEs and DAEs, and dynamic system analysis and stimulation.” (IEEE Control Systems Magazine, Vol. 29, August, 2009)
