About this book

This program is part of a series of multimedia surgical teaching tools edited by Dr. James C. Rosser, Jr., of Yale University School of Medicine. Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication provides interactive, hands-on training in Nissen Fundoplication from a laparoscopic perspective. Each CD-ROM in the series features engaging interactive design, incorporating 3-D images and animation, video and audio, to create a virtual operating room for the user. Detailed video/still images of anatomical structures familiarize the user with the stepped procedures of each stage of operation. Room Set-up is re-enacted demonstrating correct orientation of surgical/visualization equipment and surgical personnel. Procedure section walks the user through all phases of the operation. Users can exit one phase, and jump to another out of sequence, allowing for independent review. Indications/Contraindications are discussed, as well as Complications. Specific to this program: a comprehensive overview of the pathophysiology of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD); medical management procedures for treating GERD, the evolution of several fundoplication procedures.
