Springer Theses celebrates five years of success

Springer Theses, a book series comprising a selection of the very best PhD theses from around the world, celebrates five years and a total of 500 published books.  

The series gives young scientists experience in writing and publishing a book with an established international publisher and helps them gain recognition for their research early on in their careers.

Internationally top-ranked universities, including Cambridge, Stanford, Oxford and Tsinghua University, nominate their best theses examined during the last 12 months from the fields of chemistry, physics, earth sciences, engineering and materials science. Nominated and endorsed by recognized specialists, each thesis is chosen for its scientific excellence and wide impact. The published versions include an extended introduction for better accessibility, as well as a foreword by the student’s supervisor explaining the special relevance of the work for the field.
Each author is rewarded with €500 and three free copies of the book. All books are priced at €99.99 in the hardcover edition and are also available as eBooks and MyCopy, a digitally printed softcover edition priced at 24.99 (EUR/USD/GBP/CHF).

Angela Lahee, Executive Editor Physics at Springer, explained:
“The outstanding doctoral work of some of the world’s best young researchers now has its own platform in Springer Theses. By publishing their full PhD thesis, we make available valuable and accredited material that, for reasons of space, cannot be included in journal articles; for example detailed discussions of methodology, experimental design issues, and appendices providing raw data or fuller calculations. These books are especially useful to scientists entering a new field and to students starting out on their own PhD – not only for their scientific content but also as examples of how to plan and structure their own work and its presentation.”
