About the Editor

Kathryn Maguire-Jack, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Social Work at the University of Michigan. She is an expert in child maltreatment prevention and social welfare policies. She investigates child maltreatment prevention strategies and the extent to which macro-level factors of social welfare policies and neighborhood influences serve as risk and protective factors for parents. She has a particular interest in understanding rural communities and child maltreatment. Dr. Maguire-Jack teaches courses in policy, research, and child abuse and neglect. She has advanced skills in program evaluation and has been evaluating child maltreatment prevention programs for over 15 years. She received her Master of Public Affairs, Master of Social Work, and PhD in Social Welfare at the University of Wisconsin, where she focused on family and poverty policy and child maltreatment prevention. 

Her research is funded by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Administration on Children and Families and Office of Minority Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Ohio Children’s Trust Fund. Dr. Maguire-Jack enjoys collaborating with scholars around the globe and working together to support parents and families.

Scott Krugman, MD, MS, FAAP is Senior Associate Dean for LifeBridge Regional Medical Campus (RMC) at LifeBridge Health’s Sinai Hospital and the Clinical Operations Director for the Department of Pediatrics at the Herman & Walter Samuelson Children’s Hospital at Sinai. Dr. Krugman graduated from Dartmouth Medical School and completed his residency at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. Prior to joining Sinai, he was Chairman, Department of Pediatrics and Director of Medical Education at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center from 2002-2018. He served as Associate Dean for Medical Education at MFSMC, Georgetown University School of Medicine and Professor of Pediatrics at Georgetown University Medical Center from 2014-2018. From 2018-2024 Dr. Krugman served as Vice Chair of Pediatrics at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore.

A board-certified Child Abuse Pediatrician, Dr. Krugman chairs the Baltimore County Child Fatality Review Team and is a member of the Baltimore County Child Protection Review Panel. He has served on numerous statewide child abuse committees and is a faculty member of the Maryland Child Abuse Medical Professionals (CHAMP). Dr. Krugman served as Journal Associate Editor for Hospital Pediatrics from 2011 – 2017 and currently is a member of the Journal Editorial Board for Pediatrics
