Nine Chapters on Mathematical Modernity
Essays on the Global Historical Entanglements of the Science of Numbers in China

Heidelberg Studies on Asia and Europe in a Global Context presents peer-reviewed books by members of the Cluster of Excellence "Asia and Europe in a Global Context: Shifting Asymmetries in Cultural Flows" as well as scholars from both historical and empirical disciplines who are working on new emerging fields that cross existing disciplinary boundaries. The book series will examine processes of cultural exchange in an interdisciplinary way and analyze shifting asymmetries in cultural flows, while eschewing strictly geographical definitions of "Asia" or "Europe". The aim is to stimulate fruitful new theoretical debates regarding the cultural exchange between Asia and Europe from the Bronze Age to the present. Heidelberg Studies on Asia and Europe in a Global Context will acquaint readers with problems of globalization by focusing on four research areas:
Essays on the Global Historical Entanglements of the Science of Numbers in China
A Study of Critical Events in Tajikistan
China, Europe, and the Transcultural Object, 1600-1800
Towards a Comparative and Transcultural History of Disasters Across Asia and Europe
Discourses, Opinions, Experiences in Europe, South and East Asia
