About this book series
The Mathematics and Its Applications book series was launched in 1977. Up to the end of 1992, 238 titles had been published in various subseries which were geographically oriented: West Series - formerly Main Series (MAIA), Soviet Series (MASS), East European Series (MAEE), Chinese Series (MACA) and Japanese Series (MAJA).
As a result of the far-reaching changes which have taken place in East Europe and the former Soviet Union in recent times, it is no longer appropriate to continue the geographically oriented structure in the various subseries. Therefore, as from the beginning of 1993, the Mathematics and Its Applications book series has continued as a single series. Each volume published has been numbered consecutively, beginning with volume 240.
