Die Ethnologie – auch Sozial- und Kulturanthropologie genannt – hat mit der zunehmenden Globalisierung an gesellschaftspolitischer Bedeutung gewonnen. Mit ihrem Wissen um die Vielfalt menschenmöglicher Lebensweisen, Perspektiven und Handlungsoptionen leistet sie einen wichtigen Beitrag zu Verständnis und Toleranz, aber auch zu konkretem Wissen. In einer politisch vernetzten Welt, die sich zugleich ihrer kulturellen Heterogenität und Diversität bewusst ist, hat sich die Ethnologie neuen Aufgaben und Herausforderungen zu stellen. Dazu gehört die Integration der konkreten Anwendungsbereiche ethnologischer Praxis in Forschung und Lehre.Diese Reihe steht für eine verantwortliche und gesellschaftlich relevante Ethnologie, die es nicht bei Reflexion und Kritik belässt. Sie schlägt eine Brücke zwischen Theorie und Praxis, zwischen akademischer Wissenschaft und theoriebasierter Anwendung. Damit wird ein Raum geschaffen für Arbeiten, die aktuelle Probleme aufgreifen, fundierte Analysen präsentieren und darüber hinaus im Sinne einer ‚Ethnologie als Praxis‘ Problemlösungen aufzeigen.
Die Reihe ist theorieoffen und multidisziplinär angelegt. Sie ist Plattform für neue Forschungen und Erkenntnisse, anwendungsorientierte Methoden und Diskussionen zum Theorie-Praxis-Verhältnis.
With ongoing globalization, the socio-political importance of Social and Cultural Anthropology has increased. Its knowledge of the diversity of possible ways of life, perspectives and options for action, make an important contribution to social understanding and tolerance, but also to concrete know-how. In a politically interconnected world aware of its cultural heterogeneity, Anthropology has to face new tasks and challenges. This includes the integration of concrete application areas of anthropological practice in research and teaching.
The series stands for a responsible and socially relevant Anthropology that does not stop at reflection and criticism. It builds a bridge between theory and practice, between academic scholarship and theory-based application. It creates a space for studies that take up current problems, present well-founded analyses and, beyond that, elaborates solutions to problems in the true sense of an 'anthropology as practice'.
The series is open to multi-theoretical and interdisciplinary approaches. It serves as a platform for new research findings, application-oriented methods and discussions on the relationship between theory and practice.
