About this book series

This series examines various dimensions of multilingual creativity in an increasingly mobile world, using data from underexplored, understudied and undertheorized contexts of the Global South. While the field of multilingualism has been busy producing theories mainly from research done in the Global North where multilingualism is an exception, there have been scant attempts to present theoretical accounts of phenomena from the Global South where multilingualism is—and has been—the norm. This series thus begins by problematizing the received understanding of linguistic description and analysis of multilingualism: How valid is a theory of grammar which treats monolingualism as the norm for description and analysis of traditionally multilingual societies?
