Professor Dubey is a senior Professor and former Chairperson and the Director of UGC Centre for African Studies, School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. He has more than two decades of post graduate teaching and research experience in institutes such as University of Aarhus University, Denmark; Kansai, Japan; Goethe University, Frankfurt; University of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; Rhodes University, South Africa, and University of West Indies. He has about 10 published books to his credit along with several dozen research papers published in research journals of international repute. He is the Editor-in-Chief of three international peer reviewed research journals, Africa Review, Diaspora Studies, and Insight on Africa. He is currently the Secretary General of African Studies Association of India (ASA India), and President of Organisation for Diaspora Initiatives (ODI International). His areas of interest are international relations, African affairs, diaspora studies, Indian migration, Indo-African relations, development issues and political science.
