About the Editor

Edvard Hviding is Professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Bergen, Director of the Bergen Pacific Studies Research Group, and Coordinator of the European Consortium for Pacific Studies (ECOPAS), an EU-funded network of European and Pacific research institutions focused on the particular Pacific configurations of global challenges such as climate change and gender inequality. His research is grounded on continuing long-term field research in the Pacific since 1986 and covers a broad range of interrelated topics in social, environmental and historical anthropology. Hviding has been Chair of the Association for Social Anthropology in Oceania, he has served several periods as Head of the Department of Social Anthropology at the University of Bergen, and has been the editor-in-chief of academic journals. Most recently he has initiated a program of comparative anthropological research on vernacular models of, and Pacific policies concerning, changes in environment, weather and climate, while also pursuing ethnographically based studies of leadership, dispossession, and the local manifestations and consequences of globalization in Solomon Islands.
