Springer partners with the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences

North American partnership extends Springer’s leadership in mathematics publishing

Starting in 2012, Springer will partner with the prestigious Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences in publishing two book series, Fields Institute Communications (FIC) and Fields Institute Monographs (FIM).
FIC focuses primarily on publishing proceedings and outgrowths of research presented at conferences, and FIM features high-quality research monographs and lecture notes in both mathematics and its applications in science, engineering, finance, industry and medicine. Publications in both series often result from in-house activities such as conferences and graduate courses associated with thematic programs and summer schools. However all authors in the mathematical sciences are encouraged to consider publishing with the Institute, taking advantage of the benefits now afforded by the partnership with Springer.
Editorial responsibility for both series will remain with the Fields Institute. Springer—widely regarded as the leading publisher in mathematical sciences—will assume responsibility for production, marketing and distribution of the books that appear in these series, in both print and digital formats. Four books in total for both series are planned for 2012, but this number could grow in time.
Edward Bierstone, Director of the Fields Institute, remarked, “The Fields Institute is very pleased by its new partnership with Springer, which will allow more flexibility in its publication program, including the production of electronic editions in addition to hard cover and inexpensive MyCopy books.”
Elizabeth Loew, Senior Editor of Mathematics, said, “We are excited and honored to be working with the Fields Institute on these two important book series. Springer Mathematics invites the Institute to grow with us, and to encourage its authors to contribute to our many other book series. Partnering with such a distinguished organization underscores Springer’s commitment to bringing important mathematical content to researchers, and highlights our long tradition as a leading mathematical publisher.”
