Call for Papers & Main Topics of Interest
The global economy and organizations are evolving to become more service-oriented and such trend can be expected to continue in the future. Typical service industry includes various sectors such as healthcare, educational, banking, tourism, and retailing. However, service systems are often unstructured, uncertain and complex by nature. As a consequence, the importance of applying operations research methods to the service industry has been increasing. This special issue aims to provide a comprehensive perspective of how optimization methods can be applied to the context of the service industry and to call for more attention from operational researchers on this field.
This call for papers is connected to but not restricted to the papers presented at the 8th International Symposium and 30th National Conference on Operational Research (HELORS2019) that was held on May 16-18, 2019 in Patras (Greece).
We welcome original works and contributions that help to relate optimization methods with service management in line with the scope of the Journal of Global Optimization. The topics include, but are not limited to, all areas of service optimization, in particular those addressing the conference themes:
• Multiobjective optimization in service management
• Stochastic optimization in services
• Simulation-based optimization of service systems
• Service efficiency, productivity and target setting
• Decision Support Systems and Expert Systems in service optimization
• Applications of optimization methods in healthcare, education banking, tourism, retailing etc.

Special Issue on Global Multiobjective Optimization of the Journal of Global Optimization (published by Springer)

Guest editors:
Kaisa Miettinen (University of Jyvaskyla, Finland), Serpil Sayin (Koç University, Turkey)
Submission deadline: November 30, 2019
This special issue is devoted to publishing original research papers dealing with theoretical, computational and applied aspects of global optimization involving multiple, conflicting objective functions. Thus, the focus is at the intersection of global and multiobjective optimization. We invite unpublished, high quality papers, which address challenges of global multiobjective optimization. Examples of relevant optimization problems are nonconvex, stochastic or combinatorial optimization problems having both global and local optima. In this special issue, sophisticated global search strategies are emphasized and their application to various optimization problems with multiple objectives is within scope. Relevant data-driven optimization considerations are also of interest.
We welcome papers with a clear, novel scientific contribution in theory, methods or applications and papers with comprehensive and significant numerical experiments of global multiobjective optimization. The papers must be in line with the scope of the Journal of Global Optimization – An International Journal Dealing with Theoretical and Computational Aspects of Seeking Global Optima and Their Applications in Science, Management and Engineering.
This special issue is connected to but not restricted to papers presented at the 25th International Conference on Multiple Criteria Decision Making, MCDM2019 (to be held in Istanbul, Turkey, in June 2019).
Authors should follow the Instructions for Authors of the Journal of Global Optimization and submit their high quality manuscript via Springer’s online Editorial Manager www.editorialmanager.com/jogo/ by November 30, 2019. While submitting, please make sure to choose in the Editorial Manager SI: MCDM2019 as the Article Type.
Submissions are sent to reviewers as they arrive and papers accepted for publication are made electronically available via SpringerLink before the Special Issue is published.
Further inquiries should be sent to the Guest Editors: Kaisa Miettinen (kaisa.miettinen@jyu.fi) and Serpil Sayin (ssayin@ku.edu.tr).

    Aims and Scope

The Journal of Global Optimization publishes carefully refereed papers that encompass theoretical, computational, and applied aspects of global optimization. While the focus is on original research contributions dealing with the search for global optima of non-convex, multi-extremal problems, the journal’s scope covers optimization in the widest sense, including nonlinear, mixed integer, combinatorial, stochastic, robust, multi-objective optimization, computational geometry, and equilibrium problems. Relevant works on data-driven methods and optimization-based data mining are of special interest.

In addition to papers covering theory and algorithms of global optimization, the journal publishes significant papers on numerical experiments, new testbeds, and applications in engineering, management, and the sciences. Applications of particular interest include healthcare, computational biochemistry, energy systems, telecommunications, and finance. Apart from full-length articles, the journal features short communications on both open and solved global optimization problems. It also offers reviews of relevant books and publishes special issues.
