China Computer Federation and Springer to publish new journal Data Science and Engineering

Springer’s open access portfolio SpringerOpen gains new computer science journal

London | Heidelberg, 23 April 2015

Starting in 2015, Springer will publish the new open access journal Data Science and Engineering (DSE) in collaboration with the China Computer Federation (CCF). CCF is responsible for editorial content, the editorial board and academic development of the journal. Data Science and Engineering is financially sponsored by Nanjing Sinovatio Technology Co. Ltd. The journal is part of Springer’s open access portfolio SpringerOpen.

Over the past three years, Springer has established a strategic framework for collaboration with the CCF. The cooperation started with the publication of proceedings for the annual conferences of the technical committees of the CCF, and has extended to books and book series. Fourteen titles have been published so far. Collaborating on the new journal Data Science and Engineering marks the development of a more systematic and long-term cooperation between the CCF and Springer.

Data Science and Engineering aims to offer a forum for researchers and industrial practitioners to disseminate original research in the rapidly growing fields of data science and data engineering. The journal is dedicated to presenting high-quality papers that address the principles of data analysis and processing, data-intensive computing, and the techniques and systems used to analyze and manage big data and launch big-data products.
Data Science and Engineering is the first international academic journal in the field of computer science initiated and administered by a Chinese research society. The technical committee on databases at the CCF will help to shape its development strategy, solicit submissions and review articles, and promote the journal within the scientific community.

Professor Weimin Zheng, President of the CCF, explained, “In some areas of computer science, the work of the Chinese research community has reached an international academic level, but the findings were mostly published in journals outside China. Our goal is to have this research published in China in a journal which meets the highest international and academic standards.”

Professor Jianzhong Li, the Editor-in-Chief of Data Science and Engineering, added, “Data Science and Engineering will help to introduce more excellent research output from Chinese researchers to the Chinese and international research community. It will also build a bridge between academics and industry, and help turn research findings into practical applications.”

According to Alfred Hofmann, Vice President Publishing at Springer, “Data Science and Engineering is a valuable addition to our journal portfolio in computer science. We are excited about this extended cooperation with the CCF. We believe Data Science and Engineering will be a success, with such a solid editorial board, full sponsorship through an OA publishing fee and full support from Springer.”
