About this book
The present book focuses on recent advances methods and applications in photovoltaic (PV) systems. The book is divided into two parts: the first part deals with some theoretical, simulation and experiments on solar cells, including efficiency improvement, new materials and behavior performances. While the second part of the book devoted mainly on the application of advanced methods in PV systems, including advanced control, FPGA implementation, output power forecasting based artificial intelligence technique (AI), high PV penetration, reconfigurable PV architectures and fault detection and diagnosis based AI.
The authors of the book trying to show to readers more details about some theoretical methods and applications in solar cells and PV systems (eg. advanced algorithms for control, optimization, power forecasting, monitoring and fault diagnosis methods). The applications are mainly carried out in different laboratories and location around the world as projects (Algeria, KSA, Turkey, Morocco, Italy and France).
The book will be addressed to scientists, academics, researchers and PhD students working in this topic. The book will help readers to understand some applications including control, forecasting, monitoring, fault diagnosis of photovoltaic plants, as well as in solar cells such as behavior performances and efficiency improvement. It could be also be used as a reference and help industry sectors interested by prototype development.

About the editors
Dr. Adel Mellit is a Professor of Electronics at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology, Jijel University, Algeria. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. in Electronics from the University of Sciences Technologies (USTHB) Algiers in 2002 and 2006, respectively. His primary research interest is in the application of artificial intelligence techniques in photovoltaic systems and micro-grids (control, fault diagnosis, optimization and real-time applications). He has authored or co-authored more than 100 papers in peer-reviewed international journals (mostly with Elsevier); papers in conference proceedings (mostly with the IEEE); and eight book chapters, and has edited one proceedings volume with Springer. He is the Director of the Renewable Energy Laboratory at Jijel University (Algeria) and is an Associate Member of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste (Italy). He is currently serving on the editorial boards of the journals Renewable Energy and Energy (Elsevier Ltd).
Dr. Mohamed Benghanem is a Professor at Islamic University, Faculty of Science, Physics Department (since 2017). He previously served at Taibah University, Faculty of Science, Madinah, Saudi Arabia (2004–2016). He was a Regular Associate and Senior Associate at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Italy (2004–2018). He obtained his B.E., M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the Polytechnic School of Algiers and USTHB University, Algiers (Algeria), respectively. His research interests include solar instrumentation, data acquisition systems, photovoltaic systems, renewable energy systems, and the prediction and modeling of solar radiation data. He is currently serving on the editorial boards of the Journal of Energy (Hindawi Publishing Corporation) and of the Management Research Journal.
