The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare has revolutionized the field, offering innovative solutions for diagnostics, predictive modeling, and clinical support. AI algorithms and data science have enabled the development of advanced medical detection and healthcare analytics, transforming the way healthcare services are being delivered and thereby improving patient outcomes. As AI continues to permeate various aspects of healthcare service delivery, it is crucial for us to advance our collective understanding in this area to harness the full potential of AI technologies. Recent advances have demonstrated the efficacy of AI diagnostics in interpreting medical imaging and identifying patterns in patient diagnostic data, leading to more accurate and timely diagnoses. Additionally, predictive modeling has shown promise in forecasting disease progression and optimizing treatment strategies. Looking ahead, continued research in this area holds the potential for further advancements in precision medicine, personalized treatment plans, and the integration of AI-driven clinical decision support systems.

This Collection seeks to gather cutting-edge research on the integration of artificial intelligence in healthcare, focusing on AI algorithms, diagnostics, data science, predictive modeling, and clinical support. We invite researchers to contribute their work, showcasing innovative applications of AI technologies that have the potential to transform healthcare delivery and improve patient care.

Full papers will be subject to a strict review procedure for final selection to this special issue based on the following criteria:

1. Quality and originality in theory and methodology of the special issue.

2. Relevance to the topic of the special issue.

3. Application orientation which exhibits novelty.

4. If there is an implementation, the details of the implementation must be provided.

5. Presence of the following statements (if applicable): disclosure of potential conflicts of interest, research involving human participants and/or animals, informed consent.

All papers have to be submitted via the Editorial Manager online submission and peer review system. Instructions will be provided on screen and you will be stepwise guided through the process of uploading all the relevant article details and files associated with your submission. During submission authors should indicate that their manuscript belongs to the special issue “AI in Healthcare” (this question will appear at “Additional Information” step). All manuscripts must be in the English language.

After Acceptance

This special issue will be published as a virtual collection that will be accessible at SpringerLink.

Accepted papers will be published online within about 20 days after acceptance, fully citable by DOI (Digital Object Identifier), prior to publication in the issue.”

Dr. Lawan Jibril Muhammad

Muhammad Lawan Jibril is currently working with the Department of Information Technology, Faculty of Computing, Bayero University Kano – Nigeria, but he previously worked with the Department of Computer Science of the Federal University, Kashere, Gombe State – Nigeria, from 2012-2023. 

Muhammad had B.Sc. (Hons) in Computing from University of Portsmouth U. K, Masters of Business Administration from University of Wales, U.K, M.Sci. in Computer Science, from Bayero University, Kano and PhD Computer Sciences from Modibo University of Technology Yola, but he did his PhD Lab Work, at Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur under the supervision of Prof. D. K. Pratihar  

The area of research interest of Muhammad are machine learning, deep learning, data mining, computational intelligence, expert system and big data and IoT.

Dr. Najmul Hasan

BRAC University, Bangladesh

Dr. Najmul Hasan-scaled

Dr. Najmul Hasan is currently working as an Assistant Professor in Information Systems (IS) at BRAC Business School, BRAC University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Dr. Hasan has been recognized prestigious World’s Top 2% Scientist in the IS domain (Stanford University/ Elsevier) in 2024. He was Former Visiting Academic at the School of Information and Physical Sciences (Data Science and Statistics), The Newcastle University, Australia. Dr. Hasan received his Ph.D. majoring in Management Science and Engineering with a specialization in Information Systems from the School of Management, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) (AACSB and AMBA accredited), Wuhan, China. His research interests are in information systems, predictive analytics, and machine learning. He has published 54 journal articles in numerous top-ranked international journals successively and 5 conference papers. Dr. Hasan’s major publications are in Information Sciences, Information Systems, Telematics and Informatics, Internet of Things, Information Technology for Development, Enterprise Information Systems, Computers in Industry, Aslib Journal of Information Management, Education and Information Technologies, Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services, Children and Youth Services Review, Journal of Community Psychology, Energy, and many more. He received the “Excellent Academic Award” at HUST for three consecutive academic years (2018–2019, 2019–2020, and 2020–2021). He was also awarded “HUST 2022 Honorary International Graduates” (for outstanding research performance). Dr. Hasan is serving as an Academic Editor for the journal PLoS One, Assistant Editor for Journal of Systems and Information Technology, and a regular reviewer for numerous renowned journals, and a regular reviewer for numerous renowned journals. During his career, he has been involved in more than 100 academic, social, and market research projects. His research works are gaining interest in the scholarly world and have received increasing citations with an H-index of 20 and i10-index 33 (google scholars).
