Architectural Intelligence - Call for Papers: Artificial Intelligence in Architectural Design

Call for Papers: Artificial Intelligence in Architectural Design: Data-Driven and Creativity-Oriented (this opens in a new tab)

General Information

Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques have been extensively used to solve architectural problems, particularly in design-related domains. With the proliferation of AI-based design methods, an increasing number of researchers and architects are training machine learning models or utilizing pre-trained models to aid in the architectural design process. From the image-based generation of design renderings to the vector-based optimization of design solutions, AI enhances creativity in the early-stage design inspiration phase and improves the overall design process's efficiency. Clearly, AI provides significant enhancements and even a revolution to the standard design workflow. In light of this, we cordially invite researchers and architects to submit manuscripts to our thematic series Artificial Intelligence in Architectural Design in the Journal of Architectural Intelligence. In this thematic series, we wish to examine a possible future in which AI is not only a design assistant, but also a design master, becoming more involved in the design process as a whole. As a result, researchers and designers must consider new positions, discover new values, identify breakthrough points, and defend themselves against the incoming impact.

Papers are solicited with the topics of interest including, but are not limited to:

  1. AI Applications in Architectural Design:
    1. Generation of architectural design cases using AI models and platforms;
    2. Recognition and reconstruction of architectural design elements with AI;
    3. Analysis of building performance using AI tools.
  2. Design Creativity and Automation:
    1. Generation of architectural design creativity and inspiration with AI in the early design stage;
    2. Automation process in generating architectural solutions with AI in the mid-design stage;
    3. Representation and detail-adding of architectural design outcomes with AI in the late design stage.
  3. Data-Driven Architectural Design:
    1. Techniques for collecting architectural design data;
    2. Publication and analysis of architectural design datasets with high impacts;
    3. Training and applying machine learning models with architectural data.

Submission Instructions

The journal’s submission platform Editorial Manager® is now available for receiving submissions to this Special Issue. Please refer to the Submission guidelines (https://www.springer.com/journal/44223/submission-guidelines (this opens in a new tab)) to prepare your manuscript.

When submitting a manuscript via Editorial Manager, under the Additional Information tab, "Are you submitting this manuscript to a Thematic Series?" Answer "Yes" and select the Thematic Series "Artificial Intelligence in Architectural Design". Authors should indicate in the Cover Letter that whether their manuscript fit the special issue topics.

All the submissions deemed suitable to be sent for peer review will be reviewed by at least two independent reviewers. We sincerely invite you to submit your original work to this special issue and are looking forward to sharing your outstanding research outcomes with the peers around the world.
