Architecture, Structures and Construction - Call for Papers - Sustainable Structural Design: Resource, Reuse, Resilience

Guest Editors:
Dr. Stijn Brancart, Delft University of Technology, Netherlands
Prof. Mauro Overend, Delft University of Technology, Netherlands
Prof. James O'Callaghan, Delft University of Technology, Netherlands

Submission Status: Open   |   Submission deadline: 1 April 2024

Description
This Special Issue presents and discusses latest insights and innovations related to sustainability in the design and construction of load-bearing structures. It specifically focuses on the topics of responsible use of low-emission resources, reuse and design for reuse of load-bearing components and resilience.

The Special Issue aims to attract contributions related to, but not limited to, the following themes:

  • Reuse of materials in load-bearing applications
  • Design for disassembly and reuse of structures
  • Design, optimization and evaluation of low-carbon structures
  • Development and application of biobased materials(Climate) resilience of building structures

Submission guidelines
All papers must be prepared in accordance with the Instructions for Authors at:
https://www.springer.com/journal/44150/submission-guidelines (this opens in a new tab).  Authors should submit via the online submission site (this opens in a new tab) and select article type "Sustainable Structural Design: Resource, Reuse, Resilience".

Submitted papers should present original, unpublished work, relevant to one of the topics of the Special Issue. All papers will be evaluated on the basis of relevance, significance of contribution, technical quality, scholarship, and quality of presentation by at least two reviewers. It is the policy of the journal that no submission, or substantially overlapping submission, be published or be under review at another journal or conference at any time during the review process. Final decisions on all papers are made by the Editors-in-Chief.

Meet the Guest Editors:
Stijn Brancart is Assistant Professor of Structural Design at the Department of Architectural Engineering & Technology, Delft University of Technology, Netherlands. His research is focused on sustainable structural design and more specifically circular structural design, adaptive and responsive structures. Dr. Brancart teaches different courses on load-bearing structures in the BSc of Architecture.

Mauro Overend is Professor of Structural Design & Mechanics at the Department of Architectural Engineering & Technology, Delft University of Technology, Netherlands. Prof. Overend is an expert in structural glass, facade engineering and sustainable structures.

James O'Callaghan is Professor of Architectural Glass at the Department of Architectural Engineering & Technology, Delft University of Technology, Netherlands. Professor O'Callaghan is a structural and facade engineer with over 20 years of experience. Widely acknowledged as an authority on structural glass, he is perhaps best known for his highly innovative designs for glass envelopes, stairs, bridges and other structural elements in Appleā€™s iconic retail stores around the world.
