Medicinal Chemistry Research - Call for Papers: a Special Issue in honor of Prof. Gary Grunewald

Picture of Gary GrunewaldWe are delighted to announce a special issue of Medicinal Chemistry Research honoring Prof. Grunewald, a respected teacher and a well-known and highly regarded medicinal chemist. The special issue will be guest edited by Dr. Michael Wolfe and Dr. Moorthy Palanki. We would like to invite you to submit a review or research article to this special issue under the broad theme of drug design and discovery. We aim for submission by March 1, 2021 and publication of the special issue in mid 2021.

Prof. Grunewald received his BS in Chemistry and Bachelor in Pharmacy from Washington State University in 1960 and his Ph.D in Physical Organic Chemistry working with Prof. Howard Zimmerman at University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1966. He then joined the faculty at the University of Kansas in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry where he had been until his retirement in 2018. He served as the department chair in 1994-2003 and received the Higuchi/Simons Research Achievement Award for research excellence in the biomedical sciences at the University of Kansas. He has served the Medicinal Chemistry Division of ACS in various capacities including as Vice Chair (1993), Chair (1994), Councilor (1999-2001), and as a general chair of the 27th National Medicinal Chemistry Symposium in 2000. He was inducted to the ACS Division of Medicinal Chemistry Hall of Fame in 2006 and elected as a Fellow of both the AAPS (2006) and AAAS (1992). He trained over 100 undergraduate and graduate students in his laboratory over the decades, and his trainees went on to successful careers of their own in academia, industry, and government.
