MRS Energy & Sustainability - Manish Chhowalla named Editor-in-Chief of MRS Energy & Sustainability

The Materials Research Society is pleased to announce the appointment of Manish Chhowalla, University of Cambridge, as the next Editor-in-Chief of MRS Energy & Sustainability. (this opens in a new tab)

Professor Chhowalla, MRS Fellow and Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, is the Goldsmiths’ Professor of Materials Science at the University of Cambridge. He is also the Director of the Cambridge University’s Sir Henry Royce Institute for Advanced Materials. He holds the Royal Academy of Engineering Chair in Emerging Technologies on the topic of atomically thin semiconductors for ultra-low power electronics. Chhowalla’s research has spanned an extraordinary range of materials and devices, from two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (2D TMDs) for electrochemical applications and electronic devices to graphene oxide, vertically aligned carbon nanotubes, and diamond like carbons. He has demonstrated that it is possible to induce phase transformations in atomically thin materials and utilize phases with disparate properties for field effect transistors as well as for catalysis and energy storage. The results have started new fields and are based on understanding properties of phase engineered materials to improve device performance.

Speaking on his appointment, Chhowalla commented, "I am honored and excited to shape the editorial direction of MRS Energy & Sustainability in the coming years.  MRS is the premier materials society embracing materials for energy and sustainability. I will proactively engage with the community to publish their best original work with us by providing a thorough and rapid review process. The journal will also feature commentary, best practice, and review articles so that the readers can learn about the latest developments in this rapidly advancing field."

Stay tuned for new and exciting developments as the journal embraces Dr. Chhowalla’s vision for it future! Subscribe to our mailing list here (this opens in a new tab).
