Reproductive Tract Tissue/Organ Engineering and Regenerative Medicine for Reproduction
Special Issue devoted to Vision 20/20 Reproductive Sciences

In recent years, there has been a surge in demand for a new therapeutic approach for female reproductive tract disorders that culminate in the increase of sexual dysfunction, subfertility or infertility. Many symptoms can be treated with hormone therapy and surgery; however, those options have adverse effects and are limited to certain symptoms and malfunctions. Consequently, novel strategies adopted from the field of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine have recently been at the center of attention among translational and clinical researchers. This emerging trend has advanced rapidly and has developed into a new branch of reproductive medicine: 'reproductive tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.'

The goal of this upcoming special issue is to promote communications of new scientific disciplines of reproductive tissue engineering and regenerative medicine via robust submissions from world-wide reproductive biomedical researchers. The special issue will include various approaches to culture germ cells, stem cell differentiation into gametes, biomaterials used for regeneration of female and male reproductive tissues and 3D printings for the generation of reproductive organs, generations of specific-symptom models and application using larger animals. This issue also welcomes scientific papers from an interdisciplinary field that applies tissue engineering strategies to restore fertility and endocrine functionality through overcoming of reproductive dysfunction by manufacturing, replacing cells, tissues or organs of the reproductive system. Any original research articles, meta-analysis, reviews, short communications and perspectives will be welcomed for the fast peer-review process, which will surely enhance the impact of submitted articles and contribute to the development of reproductive medicine and science by inspiring peer and next-generation scholars.
