Aim & Scope:

Cracking distress has predominantly been a major source of failure in asphalt concrete (AC) pavement. Every year transportation agencies throughout the world spend millions of dollars to tackle premature load and non-load associated cracking-related damages through maintenance and rehabilitation work as well as new construction. The root causes of cracking damages in AC pavement include, but not limited to, poor quality of materials and improper characterization of materials under fatigue and thermal conditions and inadequate design and construction. This special issue of the journal aims at disseminating recent discoveries, developments, and findings of research and lessons learned on AC pavements’ cracking damages starting from analysis, modeling, design, construction, and field performance to remedial techniques and materials such as incorporation of self-healing products and rejuvenators. Information disseminated through this special edition of the journal is expected to help professionals and researchers better understand the cracking-related damages in AC pavements and construct longer lasting roadways.

List of topics of interest:

Fatigue cracking, thermal cracking, fracture energy, non-load related cracks, rejuvenated concrete, self-healing concrete, crack sealant, fatigue modeling of asphalt concrete crack, crack maintenance, improved design and construction to mitigate cracks, field performance monitoring.

Submission process:

Special issue articles are subject to the same review process and high standards as regular International Journal of Pavement Research and Technology articles, outlined in its submission guidelines (this opens in a new tab). Articles should be submitted using our online submission system (https://www.editorialmanager.com/jprt/default.aspx (this opens in a new tab)). On the submission site, select this special issue in the "Additional Information" section.
