Behavior and Social Issues - Call for Papers: Forum on Diversity and Inclusion in Behavior Analysis

The emergence in public visibility and vigorous debate of anti-inclusion actions—including but not limited to sexual harassment, sexism, racism, homophobia, prejudice against ethnic and religious minorities, discrimination against differently abled, anti-immigration sentiments—has made it imperative that behavior analysis examine its own diversity-related practices and interventions. In fact, as the recent ABAI statement on this topic indicates, this is an issue that has not escaped our own discipline and cries out for serious examination – and preferably self-examination. Therefore, in this spirit, BSI announces the inauguration of a special, continuing section of the journal titled “Forum on Diversity and Inclusion in Behavior Analysis”.

BSI’s firm intent in this endeavor is to prompt proactive, productive, and scholarly analyses of the issue. Thus, rather than anecdotes, “case studies,” or other first-person narratives of perceived discrimination or other exclusionary actions, the Forum will solicit the following types of manuscripts:

  • Surveys of diversity/inclusion practices, interventions, etc. in professional and academic behavior-analytic settings
  • Development and/or evaluation of diversity/inclusion interventions, etc. in professional and academic behavior analytic settings
  • Theoretical or conceptual analyses of diversity/inclusion practices, problems, interventions, etc. in professional and academic behavior analytic settings
  • Reviews of diversity/inclusion practices, interventions, etc. in professional and academic settings similar to behavior analysis and/or comparisons to situations in behavior analysis.

Relevant, creative, and substantive submissions that do not fit neatly into one of the above categories will be considered. However, anecdotes, “case studies,” or first-person narratives will not be considered.

Submission Information: Please submit manuscripts for this special section through the usual BSI on-line portal, being sure to select the Forum on Diversity and Inclusion option for your submission.
