Simona Bignami

Simona Bignami is an Associate Professor at the Department of Demography of the Université de Montréal. She obtained her doctorate at the University of Pennsylvania, following a master’s degree at the London School of Economics and Political Sciences. Her research interests are longitudinal survey data collection and analysis and the social and economic determinants of health, especially with regards to HIV/AIDS in developing countries. More recently, she became interested in aboriginal demography and, in 2015, she founded the Research Group on Aboriginal Demography /Groupe d'Étude su la Démographie Autochtone (GEDA) to bring together staff and students across Canada who are interested in the population dynamics of Indigenous peoples. In her current work, she uses new tools to improve our understanding of family dynamics, their evolution over time and their wellbeing in Canada and in sub-Saharan Africa.
