Mechanics of Soft Materials - Special Issue on Mechanics of Soft Active Polymers

This topical collection is open for papers that will be presented at the EUROMECH Colloquium on Mechanics of Soft Active Polymers, August 24-26, 2022, Southampton, UK. We also encourage people who are not attending the conference to submit a paper on the topic.

Guest Editors: Daniil Yurchenko and Mickaël Lallart

Opening date: January 2022

Closing date: January 2024

How to submit your article

All submissions must be original and may not be under review by another publisher. Interested authors should consult the journal’s “Submission Guidelines” at https://www.springer.com/journal/42558/submission-guidelines.

Articles can be submitted through Editorial Manager:  https://www.editorialmanager.com/mosm/default.aspx

The special issue is created as submission questionnaire in the system. When you submit your paper you will be asked if your paper belongs to a special issue. If you answer yes, a pull down menu prompts up where you can select the title of the special issue to which you are submitting your paper.

Please indicate in your cover letter that you wish your manuscript to be considered for the special issue on " Mechanics of Soft Active Polymers ". All submitted papers will be reviewed as soon as they are received. Accepted papers are published Online First until the complete Special Issue is published.

Guest Editor biographies:

Daniil Yurchenko graduated from St. Peterburg Statedy Polytechnic Institute, Leningrad in 1996 in mechanics and control theory. In 1998 and 2001 he received MSc and PhD degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, USA. In 2007 he defended his Doctor of science degree in Russia and received Young Scientist Career Award. Since 2010 he is an Associate Professor (Reader) in Mechanical Engineering Department of Heriot-Watt University, UK.  He is an expert in the area of Nonlinear Stochastic Dynamics and Control, Vibration mitigation, bifurcation and stability of vibroimpact systems, mathematical and experimental modelling of complex dynamic system with applications in railway and automotive engineering, renewable energy and energy harvesting. He has published over 100 journal papers and presented his work at numerous international conferences. He is a member of the EUROMECH, an editorial board member Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing, Int. J. of Dynamics and Control, Vibration, J, of Vibration Testing and System Dynamics. Dr Yurchenko has recently received an international NSF-EPSRC grant for development of a vibroimpact energy harvesting converter using soft active polymers.

Mickaël Lallart was born in 1983. He graduated from Institutml National des Sciences Appliquées de Lyon (INSA-Lyon), Lyon, France, in electrical engineering in 2006, and received his Ph.D. in electronics, electrotechnics, and automatics from the same university in 2008, where he worked for the Laboratoire de Génie Electrique et Ferroélectricité (LGEF). After completing a post-doctoral fellowship in the Center for Intelligent Material Systems and Structures (CIMSS) in Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA, USA in 2009, Prof. Lallart has been hired as an Associate Professor in the Laboratoire de Génie Electrique et Ferroélectricité, where he is appointed Full-time Professor since 2019. Prof. Lallart is recipient of the French Grant for Scientific Excellence since 2013 and was awarded the “French-Chinese Young Talents Program” fellowship in 2017. From 2018 to 2021, Prof. Lallart also held an invited research fellowship position in NorthWestern Polytechnical University (NPU), Xi’An, China. In 2019-2020, he was awarded a JSPS invitational fellowship (long-term) in Institute of Fluid Science in Tohoku University, in collaboration with the International Research Laboratory ELyTMaX (TU-CNRS-UdL). His field of interest focuses on electroactive conversion and its application to vibration damping and energy harvesting, as well as autonomous, self-powered wireless systems. Since 2006, Prof. Lallart has published more than 100 papers in international SCI journals and 90 conference papers including 12 personally invited talks and 3 plenary talks. He edited 6 books and participated to 9 book chapters and reviewed more than 250 manuscripts for various journals and serves as Associated Editor in numerous journals as well as expert in several project evaluation panels. Prof. Lallart was also recipient as PI or key partner of national and international academic projects funded by French Research Agency (ANR) or European Union for instance, and participated to several industrial collaborations as well.
