The atmospheric concentration of CO2 among other greenhouse gases has significantly increased over the last few decades primarily due to the intensifying consumption of fossil fuels, clearing of agricultural lands, deforestation and other anthropogenic factors. Although the concept of CO2 capture and storage is commonly used for CO2 mitigation, there is currently a paradigm shift towards the promising concept of CO2 capture, utilization and storage. There is rising interestin advanced catalytic, thermochemical, electrochemical, photochemical and biological technologies for CO2 conversion to value-added green fuels, essential chemicals and important intermediate products. The many versatile industrial utilities of CO2 are rarely documented in the literature. This thematic issue is focused on acknowledging the prospective utilization of CO2 in fuel and chemical industries through reduction reactions, carboxylation, hydrogenation, photocatalytic and electrocatalytic activations, etc. This thematic issue covers the most current breakthroughs in research, development and innovation in CO2 emission mitigation and diversification towards clean fuel, chemical and material synthesis.
