Pflügers Archiv - European Journal of Physiology - Special Issue: Physiology of systemic and cellular pH regulation

Issue Editors: Carsten A. Wagner, Pedro Henrique Imenez Silva

New Content ItemThe April issue of Pflügers Archiv is a special issue focusing on the systemic and local regulation and impact of acid-base balance. Nineteen reviews and one editorial cover various aspects of acid-base physiology and pathophysiology. Topics range from contribution and regulation of specific acid-base transporters mediating transport of protons, (bi)carbonate or ammonia, to hormones that link metabolism and acid-base homeostasis, to intra- and extracellular sensors of acid-base status, to the role of acid-base balance in nutrition, cell migration, or immunity, to finally discuss the relevance of acid-base regulation for solid tumors and inflammation. The reviews illustrate that mechanisms involved in maintaining and regulating acid-base status go far beyond simple pH regulation but have relevance for cardiovascular functions, immunity, blood pressure regulation, or metabolism and underlie pathophysiology in cancer, defence against pathogens, or intestinal inflammation. The complete issue can be found here (this opens in a new tab).
