China Population and Development Studies - Congratulations to China Population and Development Studies (CPDS) — China's Sole English-Language Demographic Journal Now Indexed in ESCI

Recently, Clarivate Analytics officially announced that China Population and Development Studies (CPDS), sponsored by the China Population and Development Research Center (CPDRC), has successfully passed the evaluation and been included in the database of ESCI.

ESCI, which stands for Emerging Sources Citation Index, primarily covers journals that demonstrate academic potential but have not yet met the criteria for inclusion in SCI. In essence, ESCI journals function as a "backup squad" for SCI journals, possessing the capability to attain SCI status but are currently in the process of being evaluated. Although the selection criteria for ESCI are less stringent than those for SCI, SSCI, and AHCI, it remains a crucial threshold for journals aiming to be included in these prestigious indexes. ESCI-indexed journals focus on emerging disciplines, encompassing over 8,200 academic journals in the fields of natural sciences, humanities, and social sciences, and spanning more than 250 disciplines, with social sciences, arts, and humanities accounting for over 50% of the total. Being included in the ESCI database signifies a significant step forward for CPDS and marks the journal's acquisition of a pass to become an internationally excellent academic journal.

Renamed from China Population Today in 2017, CPDS is under the jurisdiction of the National Health Commission of China and sponsored by CPDRC, published in partnership with the globally renowned publishing group Springer Nature. It is the world's sole English-language academic journal focused on China's population and development, serving as the official English-language publication of the China Population Association and the only English-language demographic journal in China. The journal is committed to promoting the international dissemination of research findings on China's population and development and advancing the internationalization of demographic research in China, with a focus on publishing original papers, research reviews, survey reports, and international comparative research results in the field of China's population and development. In 2022, CPDS was awarded the Chinese Academic Foreign Translation Program of the National Social Science Foundation of China (NSSFC), with the download and citation counts of its published articles increasing year by year, providing an important window for the international academic community to understand the latest developments in China's demographic research.
