Chemistry Africa - Special Issue

Recent Advances in Carbonaceous Chars

Nowadays, there is a boosting interest in employing biomass-derived char(s) in meeting some of the rushing demands such as environmental protection and supplying energy. This approach is taken into consideration due to its sustainability advantages and economic profits. This Special Issue aims to assemble current studies on carbonaceous matters generated from biomass. Biochar and activated carbon are solid materials enriched with carbon produced from biomass through a dry carbonization procedure as pyrolysis. Hydrochar is processed as a slurry from hydrothermal carbonization process. They are favorably originating from agrowaste biomass. The employed thermal treatment comprises pyrolysis, gasification, and hydrothermal carbonization which are known to influence the structure and the extent of graphitization for the resulting matrix. Moreover, it is interesting to highlight various techniques utilized in this domain about preparation processes and various applications. Hence, Chemistry Africa (CHAF) is inviting you to contribute with unpublished fulllength research/review articles that depict interesting studies about the aforementioned carbon allotropes. The suggested major topics are (but not limited to):

 - Processing conditions of natural raw materials

 - Carbonaceous char preparation parameters

 - Wastewater treatment

 - Soil remediation

 - Supported catalyst (Adsorption catalysis - Catalytic degradation of pollutants)

 - Electrode materials

 - Magnetically assisted carbon substrates

 - Electrospun fibers arising from biochar

 - Biochar-microbe interactions

 - Renewable energy applications

 - Carbon allotropes derived from:  biochar | hydrochar | activated carbon

 - Surface modification

 - Circular economy

Submission deadline: 31 July 2022
