Emergent Materials - Special Issue

Emerging Concepts & Design for Sustainability (ECDS 2023)

ECDS 2023 conference aims to gather scientists from different disciplines to meet, exchange ideas, and create new networks around the general topic of materials chemistry and physics. ECDS 2023 will be a unique opportunity for researchers to discuss climate change, water scarcity, sustainable energy harvesting and production strategies, waste management and valorization, as well as sustainable agriculture and medicine. This special issue is open for submission of high quality original and review papers by ECDS 2023 participants. Papers should focus on the smart design of materials and devices to respond to United Nations’ sustainable development goals SDG3 (Good health and well- being), SDG4 (Quality education), SDG6 (Clean water and sanitation), SDG7 (Affordable and clean energy), SDG9 (Industry, innovation, and infrastructure), SDG13 (Climate action), SDG14 (Life below water), and SDG15 (Life on land).

The special issue welcomes papers on (but not limited to):

  • Waste recycling and valorization
  • Biomass conversion
  • Sustainable energy: solar cells, hydrogen production, CO2 reforming
  • Water treatment processes
  • Water quality management and monitoring
  • Sensors for pollutants detection
  • Pollutant removal (microplastics, PPCPs, dyes, metal ions…)
  • Gas capture, soil amendment, and controlled fertilization
  • Controlled drug release
  • Sustainable materials (general)
  • Sustainable infrastructures
  • Sustainable materials for green agriculture
  • Sustainable 3D and bio-printing
  • Education for a sustainable future

The Guest Editors hope that this special issue will be of interest to both specialists and newcomers in the field, as well as PhD students and postdoctoral researchers.
