Emerging material science trends in Nanomedicine, Biosensor, Microfluidics and 3D Bioprinting technologies
Biomaterials can be defined as synthetic or natural materials to be interacted with biological entities. Biomaterials can be introduced into the body as part of an implanted medical device or used to replace a diseased tissue or an organ. Biomaterials are also used in therapeutic applications such as targeted drug delivery via nano-materials. Another application is for diagnostics purposed as biosensors or lab-on-a-chip devices. Therefore, biomaterials may vary in size from sub-nano, all the way to whole organ size depending on the application. Biocompatibility is enhanced by incorporation of live cells, an approach known as regenerative medicine or tissue engineering. Most common approach for tissue engineered constructs is 3D bioprinting. Despite the substantial benefits, there is scarcity of medical applications with biomaterials. New technologies are needed enabling to investigate complex interactions of novel materials with biological entities and/or samples. These efforts require application of interdisciplinary technologies.
This special issue aims to provide a collection of research and review articles for the recent advances at the frontiers of research in Biomaterials, Biosensors and Microfluidics applications in the biomedical field. Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

Fabrication of Biomaterials
Emergent Materials Journal was one of the main sponsor for the First International Biomaterials Conference in Qatar, entitled as “Biomaterials, Biosensor, and Microfluidics Technologies for Medical Applications”, organized on May 6-7, 2023 at Qatar University. This special issue is intended to present the high quality work of the researchers participated to the conference, and we welcome other papers as well. Journal`s current impact factor is 3.8 with Q2 ranking in the Biomaterials Area.
