Call for Papers: “Earth Observation Information Application in the West African Sub-region.”

Editors: Bennet Atsu Foli (University of Ghana, Ghana) and Dr. Regina Folorunsho (Nigerian Institute for Oceanography and Marine Research, Nigeria)

The use of Earth Observation (EO) data and application of remote sensing technology in Africa is gaining grounds in decision making processes in governments, institutions and among individuals. Although this is a relatively young emerging field on the continent, its applications have varied from use in Agriculture, health, fisheries, hydrology, safety and security. The application of remote sensing in Africa also cuts across research to provision of services to policy and decision makers and the populace as a whole. EO data now abounds in many facets of life activities and its use thereof cannot be ignored.

In this Special Issue, contributions are received from researchers as well as service providers utilizing EO data and remote sensing technology/applications for various purposes in West Africa. Contributions will cover multiple aspects of use of EO data and remote sensing technology in the marine as well as atmospheric domains.

Topics of interest include but are not limited to:

  • Marine and atmospheric weather services
  • Ocean and atmospheric variability and dynamics
  • Monitoring and curbing IUU fishing in West Africa
  • Algal blooms and their impacts in West Africa
  • Capacity development in EO applications
  • Remote sensing tools for citizen science
  • Calibration and validation of remote sensing products.
